adidas Grand Prix 2012
News and Notes, Volume 10

The Champion Returns
Yohan BlakeThe first time Yohan Blake ran at the adidas Grand Prix, he was on the St. Jago High School 4x400-meter relay team, then in 2010 came back to run the 100 meters (in 9.91, by the way). He hasn't forgotten the Icahn Stadium atmosphere. "It's a wonderful meet," he said at a press conference on Thursday. "There are a lot of Jamaican fans in New York who come out to support you. When I was a schoolboy it was really good." Yohan, we suspect it will be pretty good again on Saturday, considering you're the World Champion now and all. Hear more from Blake here.

Women's 100m Rocks
Yohan Blake wasn't the only speedster in the room yesterday. Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards-Ross and Kelly-Ann Baptiste also had their turn on stage. Felix and Baptiste had a lot to say about squaring off in perhaps the deepest women's 100-meter dash so far this season, and Richards-Ross explained how running the 200 meters at the adidas Grand Prix might fit into a possible Olympic Trials double. Check out some video here.

You'll Want To Jump On These Seats
backstretch seatingBy the time you arrive at Icahn Stadium on Saturday, we'll be ready for you. We promise. A few days ago our house looked a bit like your house did when the movers were only halfway through hauling all your stuff up the stairs, but things are shaping up nicely, especially the special backstretch seating we've just finished putting in. The long jump competition is going to be great one, featuring Mitchell Watt, the Aussie who was #1 in the world last year, and the best view in the house is from right here. Who needs the beach? Get your tickets here and then settle in to watch some boys play in the sand.

Good and Tough
Why is Carmelita Jeter so good? Olympic hurdler and biomechanical expert Ralph Mann calls her the toughest athlete he's ever met, and he's met a lot of 'em. Jeter will line up at 100 meters at Icahn Stadium on Saturday in a race featuring the three fastest women of 2012. Read excerpts from a teleconference this week with Jeter here.

Starting At The Top
Robby Andrews, the Manalapan (N.J.) High School star who will run his first professional race in the New York-New Jersey area at the adidas Grand Prix, is set to line up at 800 meters against World Record-holder David Rudisha. "I never thought that I would meet him, let alone run in the same race," Andrews told a local newspaper. "I have nothing to lose. Only good can come from it."
