Just 11 days to go before the 2014 adidas Grand Prix rolls into NYC and the stars are beginning to align...

NYC Stars Shine in Eugene

The Prefontaine Classic was held last weekend and many of the top names set to come to NYC on June 14 showed they’re in top form, including:2014 adidas Grand Prix 
  
  1. Novlene Williams-Mills (JAM) andFrancena McCorory (USA) who went 1-2 in the Women’s 400m, return to the adidas Grand Prix to match up again in their specialty.
            
  2. Tori Bowie (USA) stunned a loaded field to win the Women’s 200m in a world-leading 22.18 – and in lane one! She’ll be racing the 100m in NYC.
       
  1. LaShawn Merritt (USA) ran a world lead-equaling 43.97 in the 400m, taking second place by mere centimeters, and will be back at the adidas Grand Prix Men’s 400m.
         
  1. Shannon Rowbury (USA) set an American Best for 2 MIles and will be racing over 1500m, where she’ll face stiff competition from 2011 World Champion Jenny Simpson, who set a personal best of 3:58.28, making her the third-fastest American in history. Also in the race will be World 800m bronze medalist Brenda Martinez (USA).
      
  1. The versatile Christian Taylor (USA), took second in the Men’s Triple Jump in an excellent 17.42m/57’2.0”, two weeks after running the third leg on Team USA’s gold medal-winning 4x400m at the IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas. Last year, Taylor was runner-up in the Triple Jump and this year will contest the Long Jump. And did we mention that he’s the reigning Olympic Champion in the Triple Jump?

It's a bird...it's a plane...

2014 adidas Grand PrixHeightened strength, speed and agility...leaping buildings in a single bound...is it a superhero? Kind of! It's Olympic Champion and World Indoor Record-holder Jenn Suhr! The New York State native will be leaping in front of Macy*s flagship store in Herald Square at 35th St and Broadway in Manhattan, at 12:30PM on Wednesday, June 11. After the pole vault, an IAAF-Nestlé Kids event will give local NYC students the chance to learn the basics of track and field with stars such as Suhr,Sally PearsonYohan BlakeMaurice Greene andWarren Weir.

The Return of the Queen

Every challenger likes to have a shot at taking down the defending champion, and eight talented high school sprinters will have theirs on June 14. Ky Westbrook of Chandler, Ariz., has her Golden Ticket and will return to the adidas Grand Prix to defend the adidas High School Girls’ Dream 100m title she won last year. See what she has to say about last year’s race and what’s happened to her since she won the Dream 100m title.
